Remington's Chicago

We recently had lunch at the Remington’s in Chicago with Lighting Designer Peter Hugh and had the opportunity to review an impressive grazing effect he created for their private dinning area. Here are some insights from Peter:

We wanted to really throw a lot of the emphasis on the bottle displays and obviously not on any light fixture. We felt a linear grazer type fixture would have called more attention to itself, plus, a perfectly uniformly grazed lit display could easily start looking two dimensional. I don’t mind playing with some light and shadows or light and darkness basically.

By going with the small Zaniboni downlight (Luna 1 O), we were able to accomplish our goal with the super tight beam to really get all the way down and still get a lot of pop on the bottle being at the most bottom row equally as much as the top or middle. Then having some degree of adjustability to allow the effect to be tailored, because Murphy’s Law says that no rack is ever going to be exactly level the same way, so it really gave us the ability to adjust accordingly and really make this work.

We ended up using Zaniboni fixtures because of the overall quality of the product. You know one of the things that has always impressed us is the incredible range of color, beam spreads and output that really allows us to tailor the product to the projects needs without feeling compromised in any way. Lead times were amply met and any services that needed to be done were addressed to the expectation of all.

The owners love it. They said the amount of pop transformed it into art and not just a bottle display. Because the bottle display is also visible from the larger dining area and the bar, it actually became the feature and look of the whole restaurant.
